Aristotle Anniversary Year

UNESCO has proclaimed 2016 as “Aristotle Anniversary Year”, celebrating 2400 years since the birth of the great Macedonian philosopher and scientist. The proposal was submitted by the Hellenic National Commission for UNESCO, with the endorsement of the “Interdisciplinary Centre for Aristotle Studies” ( of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh).

Aristotle University of Thessaloniki is planning a series of scientific and cultural events to commemorate the “Aristotle Anniversary Year”. The events will take place in the city of Thessaloniki, as well as in ancient Stageira, the birthplace of Aristotle, and in ancient Mieza, the place where Aristotle taught Alexander the Great.

Our University will organize few events (lecture, conference, exhibition, etc) to honor the universal and interdisciplinary character of Aristotle’s work, and to highlight the significant influence he has had on several diverse scientific fields.
